Aromatherapy Treatments

“Aromatherapy is a holistic treatment which aims to produce a physical, spiritual, emotional and mental sense of well being through the inhalation and absorption of essential oils through massage.”

Everybody leads stressful lives. At the end of a busy day, it’s a joy to light a scented candle, or have a hot bubble bath, isn’t it? Most of us regularly use aromatherapy, but are unaware that the benefits run a lot deeper than we realise.

Aromatherapy can be used not just for relaxation, but also for helping common medical conditions.

At Holistic Hands Therapy, we use aromatherapy to aid the treatment a range of physical and mental conditions such as high blood pressure, acne, cellulite, PMT, IBS, Hay Fever, stress, anxiety and mental exhaustion.

Aromatherapy doesn’t ever claim to be a miracle cure and will always advise you to see a doctor if your problems are severe or need medical attention, but we like to think that using aromatherapy, with massage, is a great way to help you on the road to recovery. It is the perfect additional remedy for long term conditions such as those mentioned above.

So how exactly does it work? The science bit... Aromatherapy essential oils enter the skin during a massage and through the lining of the lungs after inhalation. They are then absorbed into the blood stream, once in the system, the medicinal properties of the oil start to do their work, as the scent of the oils affects the limbic system in the brain. Mainly working on the autonomic nervous system and the hormonal systems, the scents of one, or a blend of essential oils help to remedy many physical and mental issues.

Some of our more popular blends are listed below:

PMT; Clary Sage, Lavender and Chamomile

Stiffness; Thyme and Rosemary

Anxiety; Basil, Bergamot and Frankincense

Depression; Bergamot, Clary Sage and Jasmine

Insomnia; Chamomile, Lavender and Sandalwood

Stress; Basil, Juniper and Lavender

Acne; Lemongrass, Juniper and Jasmine

Another option, I could bring with me all my oils and let your nose guide you. This is often a great way to let the body intuitively pick the oils it needs for whatever reason.
